How does Qflix™ work?
Qflix is the name of Sonic's patented technology platform designed to enable the on-demand creation of premium DVD titles while maintaining compatibility with the more than one billion DVD players in use world-wide. The Qflix ecosystem is made up of manufacturers, distributors, software developers, systems integrators, retailers, and other digital media related companies who have all embraced the on-demand creation of secure DVD titles using the Qflix platform.
The Qflix ecosystem is made up of four key components:
- Qflix-enabled DVD recordable discs
- Qflix-enabled DVD recorders
- Qflix-enabled software for PC or CE devices
- Qflix online secure key servers
1,000's of titles-zero shelf space
How does Qflix™ work for retailers?
As many as 30% of U.S. retail DVD buyers leave stores empty-handed because the movies they are looking for are not in-stock or are not in-print.
Qflix technology enables retailers and kiosk vendors to work together to place small-footprint touch-screen kiosks either on the retail floor or behind a service counter, making it possible forconsumersto select from a virtually unlimited catalog DVD titles. In as little as 10 minutes, a Qflix DVD can be burned and delivered with full-color disc labels and cases. As a digital on-demand system, retailers can also offer their customers the option of purchasing hard-to-find DVD’s via their website and have them ready for in-store pickup – driving retail foot traffic while generating revenue on an otherwise lost sale.
For consumer electronics merchandisers, the Qflix program creates an opportunity to sell Qflix-enabled DVD recorders, PCs, and media to consumers who want to take advantage of downloading and burning movies at home – something they have never been able to do before. In addition, the Qflix team can work with you to offer online movies stores that build on your retail brand and drive traffic to your retail and web properties.
Multiple Order Points
These specially-modified components work together to enable premium content to be burned onto recordable media with the CSS (content scrambling system) copy protection format, used universally by the DVD format. The finished DVDs- which are functionally identical to standard retail DVDs and can even be created with printed case liners and discs just like off-the-shelf DVDs-look and behave identically to standard replicated DVD titles and will play in virtually every DVD player on the planet.
By making CSS-encrypted burning virtually ubiquitous, the Qflix program enables the rapid, low-cost release of new titles, a virtually unlimited virtual shelf for back-catalog titles, the economical distribution of hard to find and specialized content, plus the convenience of in-store or in-home DVD creation.
